Wrought Iron Moroccan Sconce

A shallow iron disc, round and slightly domed, pierced with a radiating burst of teardrops and slivers that spiral out from the center like a stylized sunflower. Small raised studs punctuate the face, and side mounting tabs give it a slightly industrial, riveted quality against the softness of the cut work. The metal carries a warm bronze patina with darker shadows settling into the recesses, so the finish shifts piece to piece.

The round format changes how the light behaves. Rather than washing downward the way a cone or cylinder does, the disc throws its pattern outward in all directions, so the projected rosette spreads evenly across the wall around it. At eight and a half inches across and only three inches deep, it reads more like a piece of wall sculpture than a conventional fixture, which suits a narrow hallway, a powder room, or a spot where a taller sconce would feel top heavy.

Each piece is cut, pierced, and shaped by hand by metalworkers in Morocco, drawing on the same techniques that have produced lanterns and architectural ironwork there for generations. Small variations in the cut work and finish are inherent to the process.
