Eggplant 4x4 — Deep Aubergine Zellige Tile

A deep, purple-brown with almost blackened undertones. This is the color of eggplant skin under low light — dense, a little bruised in the best way, more purple than red once you catch it at the right angle. Eggplant sits among our darkest, most dramatic tones, closer to aubergine than to any straightforward brown or red, and it reads as moody and rich rather than warm. Up close, each tile shifts from a deep plum-brown to a near-black at the edges, giving a full Eggplant wall real depth and a hint of color that a plain black or brown wouldn't carry.

Sold as individual tiles rather than mounted sheets, Eggplant 4×4 is the classic zellige field format — suited to kitchen backsplashes, powder rooms, hammam-style showers, and fireplace surrounds where a bold, moody tone is the goal. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, walnut, and honed marble.

As with all handmade zellige, no two tiles are ever quite alike — the natural variation in tone, texture, and edge shape from tile to tile is the hallmark of the craft, not a flaw. Because these are individual pieces rather than pre-set sheets, installation allows for custom layout and spacing to suit your design. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
