Moroccan Hand-Painted Double-Gourd Lidded Urn with Brass & Silvered Collar
Size: 13"W x 21"H x 13"D
SKU#: VA142
A Moroccan double-gourd lidded urn in the Fassi ceramic tradition of Fez, hand-thrown and hand-painted over an ivory glaze ground in cobalt blue, teal green, terracotta red, and amber — the soft crazing and warm patina marking a piece made in the old manner.
The decoration is built on bold interlacing strapwork: broad cobalt bands knotting into stars and spirals across the lower bulb, with teal palmettes and amber dots filling the ivory ground. The waist is belted with a wide collar of hand-worked brass and silvered metal — beaded wire, embossed lozenges, and applied bosses — that crowns the lower bulb and rings the neck. The domed lid carries the painted work up to a hand-formed, metal-capped finial.
A sculptural statement vessel with the double-gourd silhouette historically tied to ceremonial storage and apothecary tradition. The graphic strapwork and dense metalwork give it real presence on an entry console, mantelpiece, sideboard, or library shelf. Suited to traditional Andalusi, Fassi, Moorish revival, bohemian, and Mediterranean interiors.
