Aqua 2x6 — Blue-Green Zellige Tile

A saturated sea-green with true blue beneath it. This is the color of fountain basins in a courtyard at midday — glaze drawn from copper rather than any modern pigment, which is why it shifts restlessly between deep teal and a brighter, almost jade green as the light moves. Aqua sits between our Teal and Fiji glazes, steadier than Fiji's variegation and warmer than Teal's depth, and in the elongated format that movement stretches along the length of each tile rather than flickering square to square. These pieces have been shaped and glazed by hand in the same Fez ateliers that have supplied us since the beginning.

Sold as individual tiles rather than mounted sheets, the 2x6 is zellige in its brick format — built for herringbone, running bond, and vertical stack layouts where the pattern itself becomes part of the design. Twelve tiles make up one square foot. It suits kitchen backsplashes, shower walls, and fireplace surrounds where a wall should hold presence, and it pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, walnut, and lime plaster.

As with all handmade zellige, no two tiles are ever quite alike — the natural variation in tone and texture is the hallmark of the craft, not a flaw. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
