Cayenne 2x8 — Warm Orange-Red Cement Tile

A warm, spiced orange-red, more heat than earth. Cast in cement, it takes on a flat, sun-baked density — the color of dried chiles strung along a market stall, or clay that's been fired hotter than usual. Cayenne sits apart from our terracotta family: less brown than Redwood, less wine-dark than Rouge, closer to true orange than either. Each tile is hand-pressed from pigmented cement by artisans in Fez, following a hydraulic process that has shaped North African floors for well over a century — the pigment set not by fire, but by time and pressure.

Sold as individual tiles, the 2x8 format lends itself to running bond, herringbone, or basketweave — geometries that let the tile's quiet texture do the talking. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It brings real warmth to a kitchen floor or courtyard-style entry, and pairs beautifully with brass, dark wood, and white plaster.

Cement tile carries the fingerprints of its making — soft variation in tone and a slightly porous, hand-finished surface that no machine could replicate. We recommend sealing every tile before installation and again after grouting — a small ritual that protects the pigment for decades to come. For larger runs, order ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching.
