Noir 2x8 — True Black Cement Tile

A true, glossy black in zellige, but here — cast in cement — it settles into something matte and absolute, more like blackened iron than glass. There's no shine to catch the light, just a flat, unbroken density that reads as architecture rather than decoration. Each tile is hand-pressed from pigmented cement by artisans in Fez, following a hydraulic process that has shaped North African floors for well over a century — the pigment set not by fire, but by time and pressure.

Sold as individual tiles, the 2x8 format lends itself to running bond, herringbone, or basketweave — geometries that let the tile's quiet texture do the talking. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It works as a dramatic entry floor or a grounding base beneath lighter walls, and pairs beautifully with brass, walnut, and pale plaster.

Cement tile carries the fingerprints of its making — soft variation in tone and a slightly porous, hand-finished surface that no machine could replicate. We recommend sealing every tile before installation and again after grouting — a small ritual that protects the pigment for decades to come. For larger runs, order ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching.
