A tall half cylinder of hand cut iron, slightly flared at the top and pierced with large radiating rosettes set among smaller teardrops and diamonds. The crown is cut into a row of arched points that give the top edge a lantern-like profile, and the bottom finishes in a scalloped curve rather than a flat cut. The metal carries a dark patina with warmer tones surfacing where the surface has been worked, so the finish varies piece to piece.

The piercing does its real work once the fixture is lit. Light pushes through the cut openings and casts the rosette pattern onto the surrounding wall, so the sconce reads as a sculptural object unlit and as projected pattern after dark. At six and a half inches wide and fourteen inches tall with only three inches of projection, it sits close to the wall, which suits a hallway, a stairwell, or a pair flanking a bed or mirror where depth is tight.

Each piece is cut, pierced, and shaped by hand by metalworkers in Morocco, drawing on the same techniques that have produced lanterns and architectural ironwork there for generations. Small variations in the cut work and finish are inherent to the process.
