Moroccan Wrought Iron Sconce
A tapered cone of hand cut iron, pierced with a field of eight point rosettes and small diamonds that sit denser toward the top and thin out as the shape narrows. The scalloped top edge softens what would otherwise be a severe silhouette. The metal carries a dark, uneven patina with warmer rust tones coming through where the surface has been worked, so no two pieces weather quite the same way.
The piercing is the whole point once it's lit. Light escapes through the cut work and throws the rosette pattern back onto the wall around it, so the fixture reads as a quiet sculptural object by day and as projected pattern after dark. Mounted flush to the wall at seven inches wide and twelve and a half inches tall, it takes up very little depth, which makes it workable in a hallway, a stairwell, or flanking a mirror where a bulkier fixture would crowd the space.
Each piece is cut, pierced, and shaped by hand by metalworkers in Morocco, using the same techniques that have produced lanterns and architectural ironwork there for generations. Small variations in the cut work and finish are inherent to the process.
Size: 7"W x 12.5"H x 4"D.
