Gris 2x8 Cement Tile

Gris 2x8 — Charcoal Grey Cement Tile

A stippled charcoal grey, cooler and quieter than our other neutrals. Cast in cement, it loses the fine glazed texture of zellige Gris and takes on a flatter, more mineral density — closer to raw concrete left exposed than a finished glaze. It's the grey of old stone thresholds worn smooth by decades of foot traffic. Each tile is hand-pressed from pigmented cement by artisans in Fez, following a hydraulic process that has shaped North African floors for well over a century — the pigment set not by fire, but by time and pressure.

Sold as individual tiles, the 2x8 format lends itself to running bond, herringbone, or basketweave — geometries that let the tile's quiet texture do the talking. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It grounds an entry, kitchen floor, or bathroom without going stark, and pairs beautifully with brushed nickel, white oak, and Venetian plaster.

Cement tile carries the fingerprints of its making — soft variation in tone and a slightly porous, hand-finished surface that no machine could replicate. We recommend sealing every tile before installation and again after grouting — a small ritual that protects the pigment for decades to come. For larger runs, order ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching.

Sold by the square foot. $14 per square foot.
