Ecru 4x4 — Warm Neutral Zellige Tile

An unbleached, oatmeal-toned white. Think raw linen left out in the sun, or the pale plaster walls of a house that's weathered a few decades gracefully — warm without trying, quiet without going cold. Ecru sits a half-step warmer than Blanca and a half-step cooler than Beige, the middle ground of our neutral family. Up close, each tile drifts from bone to a faint sand tone, with small flecks of raw clay surfacing through the glaze here and there, a natural mark of the hand-glazing process.

Sold as individual tiles rather than mounted sheets, Ecru 4×4 is the classic zellige field format — suited to kitchen backsplashes, powder rooms, hammam-style showers, and fireplace surrounds where a warm, quiet neutral is the goal. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, white oak, and lime plaster.

As with all handmade zellige, no two tiles are ever quite alike — the natural variation in tone, texture, and edge shape from tile to tile is the hallmark of the craft, not a flaw. Because these are individual pieces rather than pre-set sheets, installation allows for custom layout and spacing to suit your design. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
