Cobalt Blue Glazed Urn with Brass and Silver Metalwork
Size: 15"W x 30"H x 15"D - (Mouth: 11"W)
SKU#: VA138
A monumental Moroccan floor urn finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze with the natural drip and pooling character of traditional Tamegroute pottery, dramatically crowned with hand-hammered brass and embossed silvered metalwork at the rim and base. The upper register carries a scalloped pendant skirt of repoussé teardrops, palmette florets, and star rosettes in the Tiznit-Marrakech silversmithing vocabulary, finished with a rope-twist guilloché lip at the mouth of the vessel. The conical zir silhouette — wide shoulder narrowing to a tapered foot — is one of the oldest vessel forms in North African pottery, historically used for storing water, grain, and oil. The cobalt glaze pools and weathers into earthy bronze tones across the lower body, giving the surface its painterly character.
A statement floor vessel meant to stand alone as sculpture. Ideal as a floor-standing piece flanking a fireplace, an entry console, a doorway, or anchoring a corner of a designed room. Equally suited to traditional Andalusi, Moorish revival, bohemian, Mediterranean, and earthy contemporary interiors.
