Chocolate 4x4 — Deep Brown Zellige Tile
A rich, wine-brown with real depth and a hint of oxblood beneath the surface. This is the color of a well-worn leather saddle, or dark chocolate broken open to show the grain inside — dense, warm, never a flat, even brown. Chocolate is the darkest of our warm tones, closer to aged mahogany than to anything sitting lighter on the spectrum, and it's long been a favorite for grounding a space with real warmth without the boldness of Rouge. Up close, each tile shifts from a deep reddish-brown to a near-black at the edges, keeping a full Chocolate wall from ever reading as one flat tone.
Sold as individual tiles rather than mounted sheets, Chocolate 4×4 is the classic zellige field format — suited to kitchen backsplashes, powder rooms, hammam-style showers, and fireplace surrounds where a rich, grounding brown is the goal. Nine tiles make up one square foot. It pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, walnut, and Venetian plaster.
As with all handmade zellige, no two tiles are ever quite alike — the natural variation in tone, texture, and edge shape from tile to tile is the hallmark of the craft, not a flaw. Because these are individual pieces rather than pre-set sheets, installation allows for custom layout and spacing to suit your design. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
