A dark, moody checkerboard, alternating Hunter's near-black bottle green against Noir's true black — two of our darkest glazes set against each other rather than against a lighter neutral. This is a quieter, more brooding version of the classic checkered pattern, built for a space that wants drama without stark contrast. Because each tile is hand-cut and hand-glazed individually, no two squares in the same color are ever perfectly uniform — small shifts within each color are what keep a dark checkerboard like this one from reading flat or printed.

Mounted on mesh sheets for a straightforward, clean installation, this pattern is well suited to kitchen floors, entryways, powder room walls, and fireplace surrounds — anywhere a bold, graphic moment is the goal. It pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, black steel, and honed limestone. Each sheet measures 8" x 8", covering approximately 0.44 sq. ft.

As with all handmade zellige, expect natural variation in tone and texture from tile to tile — this is characteristic of the craft, not a flaw. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
