Ecru 1x1 — Warm Neutral Zellige Mosaic Tile
An unbleached, oatmeal-toned white. Think raw linen left out in the sun, or the pale plaster walls of a house that's weathered a few decades gracefully — warm without trying, quiet without going cold. Ecru sits a half-step warmer than Blanca and a half-step cooler than Beige, the middle ground of our neutral family. Up close, each tile drifts from bone to a faint sand tone, with small flecks of raw clay surfacing through the glaze here and there, a natural mark of the hand-glazing process.
Mounted on mesh sheets for a straightforward, clean installation, Ecru 1×1 suits kitchen backsplashes, powder rooms, hammam-style showers, and fireplace surrounds equally well. It pairs beautifully with unlacquered brass, white oak, and lime plaster.
Each sheet covers one square foot. As with all handmade zellige, no two tiles are ever quite alike — the natural variation in tone and texture is the hallmark of the craft, not a flaw. We recommend ordering ten percent beyond your total square footage to allow for cuts and pattern matching, and sealing prior to grouting for wet installations.
